25 Million People are Trafficked Worldwide

About this issue:
Not enough people are concerned about Human Trafficking. I don’t know if it seems like a far-fetched reality to most or if just isn’t profound enough – but not enough people are concerned about human trafficking.
Human Trafficking by definition, is the unlawful act of transporting or coercing people in order to benefit from their work or service, typically in the form of forced labor or sexual exploitation. So, let’s talk some facts, no hyperbole, no exaggeration, just straight scary fucking facts:

According to the International Labour Organization, the US Department of State, and the Polaris Project 24.9 million people are victims of trafficking.

According to the US National Human Trafficking Hoteline Report, there were 10,583 trafficking situations identified and 16,658 trafficking victims identified. A single human trafficking situation may involve a single potential victim or many potential victims.

Polaris serves as a data hub for the anti-human trafficking field, providing key data to hundreds of researchers, academics, law enforcement officers and others seeking to deepen knowledge and understanding. Polaris’s data set, gleaned from the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline, also served as the underlying basis for a report on human trafficking of domestic workers – a significant percentage of labor trafficking survivors in the data set, as well as for the annual release of carefully analyzed data from the Hotline that reveals number of likely reported cases of trafficking each year.
Human Trafficking is a $150 Billion Industry
While only 19% of victims are trafficked for sex, sexual exploitation earns 66% of the global profits of human trafficking. The average annual profits generated by each woman in forced sexual servitude ($100,000) is estimated to be six times more than the average profits generated by each trafficking victim worldwide ($21,800), according to the Organization for Security and Co‑operation in Europe (OSCE).
