#7 We are all artists.

Updated: Sep 26

About this issue:

I am entering a new chapter on my artistry-journey. Figuring this shit out. Figuring out my goals, and intentions, and joys, and just everything. Every single day, each and everyone of us create. We create when we get dressed, when we cook, when we make coffee, when we make decisions or plans. We are all artists, but only some of us believe it.

Imposter syndrome is real as fuck – no matter what field or industry you work in. I’m one full year out of the Army now and man this shit feels weird. It feels good, but it feels weird. Figuring out my truth has been a daily thing, whether in conversations with myself or conversations with my friends family and colleagues. Piecing Assia together is crazy work that I should’ve started years ago.

So this issue is about all of us – since we are all artists. First will be music, and since I live in LA, I wanted to highlight a few live music venues that are resurfacing since COVID. Next will be visual art so I highlighted a few art galleries in LA. Next will be the art of giving since people feel so inclined to give back during the holidays. And the last art form I covered is the art of business – specifically dividend stocks and tax prep for business owners.

Finally - WHAT INSPIRED THE COVER PHOTO?!

Red is not usually my go-to color. It’s very aggressive and always seems like a huge commitment so I tend to stray away from it.

I recently learned in a Feng Shui workshop that the color red is the most powerful color. The color is historically used in Feng Shui to protect a home or person’s energy. Red is also used to energize/activate a space like fire. On the Feng Shui Bagua chart red is associated with visibility, inspiration, and clarity. So red is pretty fucking awesome, and fitting for this time in my life. I am stepping into my artistry with so much truth. This cover symbolizes me owning what I say I am and owning what I say I believe.

If you’ve read this entire thing, thank you for your patience, and thank yourself for your presence. If you see something you like in this issue please share it because someone else may like it or find it useful.

Cheers to the Winter Solstice, Cheers to the longest night and shortest day of the year. Cheers to almost being 2022. Take care of yourself.

All love,

Assia

What is a dividend stock?

Well first let’s talk about dividends. A dividend is distribution to shareholders for their investment in a company’s equity. Think of it as a reward. All companies do not pay dividends, but that’s another topic.

So how much are we talking? That is based on what is known as “dividend yield” – this yield like other yields (i.e. APY or Annual Percentage Yield) is a financial ratio aka percentage that tells you the amount of money a company pays shareholders for owning a share of stock divided by its current stock price.

Example:

Company X – Share Price = $100

Investor – buys 100 Shares = $10,000

Company X – Dividend Yield = 4%

4% x $100 = $4 per Share

Investor owns 100 Shares = $400 in dividend payout

Remember taxes – so with stock related profits you have capital gains tax and dividend income tax. Read this article to learn the difference:
