What’s up yall! I wanna lead with some really huge news:

I’m officially in development on my debut feature film!!! Learn more about this project and follow the journey here.
Happy June Solstice
& Happy Father's Day to all the Dads!
So I watched MIDSOMMAR(2019) for the first time recently, and that sh*t really stressed me out 🥴 it’s given an entirely new flavor to my thoughts on this Solstice so instead of my typical “it’s the season for...” I wrote some prose:

FOR MEMBERS ツ
You’ve got a new video on your member dashboard : I share my writing process as I dance between a poetry book and a screenplay.
WORK
I finished the first draft of my second screenplay back in April, then took a break from it just to let it breathe, then combed back through it in May. It could be done, but is art really ever done? I’m also writing my third poetry book and I’m on schedule to have the manuscript complete by October, so your girl is in her writer-bag!
I'm currently on set filming a new project! After filming, I’ll be exhibiting at the AFRICAN-AMERICAN BOOK FESTIVAL in Austin, TX on June 27. Stop by if you’re in the area, and if you can’t make it, buy my books online 😉
GRATITUDE
I AM NOT A POET is now out of print! My first breath as a writer is sold out. Read my reflection here.
CONSUMPTION
Just finished LEAVING MY FATHER’S HOUSE by Marion Woodman. Initially I got the book for character development for the screenplay I’m writing, but per synchronicity, my work is again informing my life, and in the spirit of the prose I wrote on consumption, I've decided to sit with my thoughts on the book and really let them sink in, before I move onto my next read. Also I’ve been vibing to the album NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME by Folk Bitch Trio - easy background music but if you hone in, the lyrics drop bars!
Happy Solstice: feel whatever you’re feeling without masking it with production or consumption.
Take care of yourself.
All Love,
Assia
P.S. Nike and I said goodbye to California and hello Texas! We took a two week roadtrip stopping in Lake Montezuma & Sedona, Arizona, and Albuquerque, New Mexico 🏜️
